In “SuperFoods RX,” medical dietitian Steven Pratt identifies nuts and berries as two of the 14 healthiest foods to include in your diet. Nuts are good sources of protein, monounsaturated fats, vitamin E, fiber and folate. Berries contain powerful antioxidants, fiber and vitamin C. Incorporating nuts and berries in a balanced diet offers many nutritional benefits.

Fruit and Vegetable Benefits A diet to lower cholesterol contains the nutrition necessary for good health.

The body naturally produces cholesterol for certain body functions. You also add cholesterol to the body from foods. Too much cholesterol from food can clog the arteries and deny the heart sufficient oxygen-rich blood. Getting rid of excess cholesterol reduces the risk of heart disease. You benefit by reducing cholesterol levels with a cholesterol nutrition diet, but you also get nutrients for proper nourishment and growth.
Limit Unhealthy Fats

Saturated fats can raise LDL cholesterol, the type that accumulates in the arteries and leads to heart disease. Limit the amounts of meat and poultry in your diet. Fish have less saturated fat than poultry or meat. Meat, poultry and fish contain protein. Choose lean meats and poultry without skin. Limit your intake of lean meat, skinless poultry and fish to no more than 5 oz. a day. Eliminate trans fats which come in packaged snack cakes, cookies and crackers.
